The governor’s sword of Count Jan of Rottal from 1650, nicknamed “Crown Jewel of Moravia,” is one of the most valuable collection items in the museum in Holešov.
The Count of Rottal was the provincial governor of Moravia from 1648 to 1655. He ranked amongst the most powerful and richest noblemen in Moravia at the time. His ceremonial sword symbolized the judicial and military power of the provincial governor.
After a one-year-long research and restoration effort at the Technical Museum in Brno, the sword returned back to the castle Holešov in 2024. The new permanent exhibition introduces not only this masterpiece of silversmiths, but also the personality of its original owner and the importance of governor’s office.
